Silicone is "The New Black"
In recent years, the scope of use of silicone products has continuously expanded and has slowly entered our lives without us thinking about it. Silicone is an increasingly popular material and is a material to be preferred over plastic if we are to move away from a wear-and-throw society. One of the biggest advantages of it is that it is a very durable material. It can last a lifetime and can be used over and over again without losing its form or function.
Silicone products are everywhere around us in our everyday life. You are guaranteed to own at least a couple of silicone products, everything from mobile phone cases, watch bands to various kitchen and baking utensils and even that toy hidden in the bedside table 😊. Silicone is also widely used in the medicine industry, mainly in implants and pacemakers and in the manufacture of catheters, contact lenses and a variety of other things.
Advantages of silicone
Perhaps the biggest reason why we have chosen to work with silicone and not plastic is that silicone is heat resistant and can withstand high temperatures without leaking toxins as plastic can (when heated). Heat and plastic that comes into contact with food is a bad combination, especially if the surface (for example a children's plate) has got scratches. That´s why it is important to check your plastics for scratches every now and then so that chemicals like BPA don´t end up into the food your child eats. Children's bodies are developing and continue to develop right up to adulthood, so it makes them particularly vulnerable to chemicals. So it goes without saying, we want to offer you the best material in kids tableware, and that is 100% food grade silicone.
By the way, even if you use plastic, it can be a lunch box or a plastic plate etc. remember not to use them in the microwave and try to hand wash them instead of putting them in the dishwasher. With silicone, on the other hand, you don´t need to care about that. In its chemical construction, silicone is a very compact and stable material that, unlike plastic, does not leak out harmful toxins such as BPA, BPS, phthalates or microplastics when heated.
So, we hope we have taught you something about silicone and plastics and the difference. Please do let us know if you have any questions!
